Welcome!

I’m Gloria

Your Editor-in-Chief(and fellow parent in the trenches)

Hey there, beautiful human!

I need to tell you something important: you’re doing better than you think you are.

I created Modern Parenthood Journal because I was tired of parenting content that made me feel like I was failing at the most important job of my life. You know what I’m talking about—those perfect Instagram feeds, those “easy” meal plans that require seventeen specialty ingredients, and those activity ideas that assume you have unlimited time and energy.

Here’s the truth: Modern parenting is HARD. You’re navigating challenges your own parents never faced, making decisions with incomplete information, and trying to raise incredible humans while social media tells you you’re doing it all wrong.

But here’s what I know for sure—you don’t need another expert telling you what you should be doing. You need someone who gets it, who’s been there, and who can help you trust yourself while giving you practical tools that actually work.

“Nurturing families and empowering parents, one page at a time.”

Editor in Chief, Miss Gigi

What We’re Really About

This is your permission slip to be imperfect. Your house doesn’t have to look like a magazine. Your kids don’t need to eat organic everything. You don’t have to love every moment of parenthood to be a good parent.

This is your reminder that you matter too. Yes, your kids are important. But so are you. Your dreams, your needs, your identity beyond “mom” or “dad”—all of it matters. That’s why you’ll find content here that’s just for YOU, the whole person you are.

This is your invitation to do parenting YOUR way. There’s no one-size-fits-all formula for raising kids. Your family is unique, your circumstances are unique, and your approach gets to be unique too.

Here’s What Makes This Different

You know how most parenting experts tell their story? It usually goes something like “I figured it all out, and now I’m here to save you.” That’s not my story.

My story is this: I became a Board Certified Holistic Health Practitioner because I wanted to understand the whole picture of people and family wellness. I’m working toward my doctorate in CORE counseling because I believe parents deserve deeper support. And I built four businesses—Modern Parenthood Institute (training parenting professionals), Magnolia Baby Company and Boston Harbor Baby (providing fourth trimester, sleep, lactation, and potty training support), and Modern-Parenthood (1:1 coaching)—because I kept meeting families who needed more hands-on help than a blog post could provide.

But here’s what working with hundreds of families actually taught me: some days you need someone to remind you that you’re doing better than you think. Other days, you need actual strategies for the 3 AM wake-ups or the toddler who’s suddenly afraid of the potty. Most days, you need both. The magic happens when you get practical tools delivered with genuine care, and when someone believes in your ability to figure out what works best for your family.

So yes, I have the training and experience to back up what I share here. But what I’m most proud of is creating spaces—whether through this magazine, my businesses, or working one-on-one with parents—where you can get real help without feeling judged, and where your unique family situation actually matters more than any textbook answer.

The Content That Changes Everything

Family Food for Every Mood and Moment

Whether you’re feeling “I can’t even look at the kitchen today” or “I want to create something amazing and fun,” we’ve got you covered. Our recipes meet you exactly where you are—from beginner-friendly, barely-cooking solutions for those overwhelming days to exciting culinary adventures when you’re feeling inspired.

No judgment if you serve cereal for dinner sometimes—we’ve all been there. But when you’re ready to cook (whether that’s microwaving something simple or trying that fancy cocktail recipe), we’ve got tested options that won’t leave you crying into a pile of dirty dishes.

Activities That Actually Happen

Fun ideas that don’t require a Pinterest board or a trip to three different stores. Simple, engaging activities that kids love and parents can actually execute on a Tuesday afternoon when everyone’s cranky.

The Honest Parenting Conversations

No toxic positivity here. We talk about the hard stuff—mom guilt, feeling overwhelmed, questioning your choices—with compassion and practical strategies that actually help.

Self-Care That Fits Your Life

Forget the “take a bubble bath” advice. Real self-care for parents looks like setting boundaries, asking for help, and remembering that taking care of yourself isn’t selfish—it’s essential.

Here’s What I Promise You

I promise to never make you feel like you’re not enough. You ARE enough, right now, exactly as you are.

I promise to give you permission to trust your instincts. You know your kids better than any expert, including me.

I promise to remember that you’re a whole person with dreams and interests that matter, not just someone’s parent.

And I promise to keep showing up with content that makes your life easier, not harder.
